ccda-award.jpgApril 17 marked the grand opening at two new Lowe’s stores in Milford and Meriden. In conjunction with the openings, both Lowe’s stores matched every gift card purchased dollar-for-dollar (up to $5,000 each) and donated it to Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven. The funds will be used on Habitat’s upcoming home construction projects in the New Haven and Meriden/Wallingford areas.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven was honored by the Connecticut Community Development Association with its “CCDA Peer Award of Excellence 2008″ at a statewide celebration held on March 26 in Hartford. Habitat’s Executive Director Bill Casey accepted the award. HfHGNH was recognized for outstanding leveraging of Community Block Development Grant (CDBG) funds for its Rosette Street project in New Haven’s Hill neighborhood. Through a vigorous fundraising campaign, Habitat leveraged a CDBG grant of $49,035 that had been approved by the New Haven Board of Aldermen into $747,795.

The Rosette Street Project is HfHGNH’s largest single project to date. All five homes were completed in 2007, transforming a once blighted area into a thriving neighborhood.
