Volunteering as an Individual

We are looking for a volunteer who is highly skilled at repairing equipment. This could be a regular commitment or on an “as needed” basis. First task: repairing two compressors.

Help build a Habitat home–join our construction crew
We have openings for individual construction volunteers on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays only. Saturdays are heavily scheduled with volunteers from our sponsor groups; therefore, there are no opportunities on Saturdays for individual volunteers. We are particularly looking for experienced carpenters who are willing to make an extended commitment.
Most Habitat volunteers join our construction crew and help build Habitat houses in the city of New Haven. We build year-round, Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Our construction staff works alongside the volunteers and does all the training. Most volunteers are fairly unskilled when they begin working. Due to the amount of training we invest in our volunteers, we ask that all volunteers who join us make a commitment.
The best days for individuals to volunteer are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Depending on the stage of construction and the need for volunteers, there may be a wait between the time you apply and when you are placed.
All volunteers are responsible for their own transportation to and from the work site. We cannot provide or arrange transportation.
Volunteer in the Habitat office
Occasionally, we have opportunities in our office. Volunteers work with the Habitat office staff performing a wide range of administrative tasks. The office is open Monday through Friday from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Join a committee
Volunteers also help plan building projects, locate building sites, raise funds, and much more. Committees generally meet once a month on a weekday evening in New Haven.
Committee members should plan on making at least a one-year commitment. Volunteers who are fluent Spanish speakers are particularly needed.
