Dedication Day at 15 & 23 Wilson Street!

In spite of the overcast day, Saturday, May 16 was a day of smiles and hugs as representatives and volunteers from Habitat sponsor groups Yale-New Haven Hospital and Madison Cares joined with friends, family, co-workers of Habitat’s two newest homeowners to celebrate the completion of 15 and 23 Wilson Street.
Yale-New Haven Hospital and its medical staff partnered with Habitat for the first time to build 15 Wilson Street, the new home of Eliezer Trinidad, Evelyn Matos and their three children. In addition to financial support, 175 YNHH volunteers worked 19 weeks on the house, contributing almost 1,200 hours of labor. Volunteers included a broad cross section of departments, including doctors, nurses, administrators, health professionals, clerical and support staff, as well as some of their own family members.
Madison Cares, Habitat’s oldest house sponsor group, raised the funds and provided the volunteers for 23 Wilson Street, the home of Pedro Castro, Ginette Quiñones and their three children. The home is their fifth homebuilding project for Habitat.

Adam’s Blog for Scheduled Volunteers
To facilitate communication between Adam, our construction manager, and scheduled volunteers concerning weather cancellations, work location, etc., we have started a new blog at http://habitatgnhvols.blogspot.com/. It will cover the time period of Friday to Friday. Adam will update the blog as necessary. Volunteers can link to it to receive automatic email updates. Please note: the blog is not a scheduling tool. It is a way for Adam to communicate specific information to volunteers already scheduled.
(Please do not report to a site if you have not been scheduled! For safety reasons we limit the number of people on site–12 volunteers per house per day. To schedule, please contact your sponsor group’s volunteer coordinator. Volunteers new to Habitat and not affiliated with one of our sponsor groups must attend an orientation. Contact Ellen McNally, Habitat’s Volunteer Coordinator, at (203) 785-0794 or emcnally@habitatgnh.org for more information.)
CARS FOR HOMES™
Did you know that the automobile is the most heavily recycled consumer product? 94% of the metal in a car is recycled! When you donate a car, truck, boat, RV or other vehicle to Cars for Homes™, Habitat’s vehicle donation program, it is “recycled” to help Habitat build decent, affordable homes for low income working families.
For more information on the Cars for Homes™ program, call (877) 277-4344 (toll free) or visit http://www.habitat.org/carsforhomes/default.aspx for more information. Be sure to indicate you would like the donation to be directed to Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven!
