New Hours at the New Haven County ReStore in Wallingford

Beginning March 8, the ReStore will be open on Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. This will give shoppers 7 days to browse our fantastic selection of new and gently used furniture, lighting, kitchen items, tools, and décor for the home. Our operating hours at the ReStore are now:

Sunday, Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Donations of small items (dish sets, tools, art, seasonal) can be taken at the door. Other items must be scheduled for pickup or drop off. To coordinate pickup or drop off please send a picture of the item(s) you would like to donate to restore@habitatgnh.org or 203-800-5517. Our donation coordinator will return your message within 48 hours. Thank you for thinking of the ReStore, your donations help to fill our store and purchases help to fund the construction of Habitat homes in our community.

International Women Build Week: March 8-15

On March 8 we will kick off Women Build Week and we could not be more excited! Habitat for Humanity’s International Women Build Week, created in partnership with Lowe’s, highlights the global need for women’s access to safe and affordable housing. This year, more than 300 Women Build projects will kick off across United States, Canada and India on International Women’s Day (March 8), so we are in great company. Watch our Facebook page all week for inspiring stories from our volunteers and homeowners demonstrating the power of safe, affordable housing for women in our community.

2021 Board of Directors Announced

During the affiliate’s Annual Meeting on January 25, five new board members were elected to Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven’s Board of Directors. Candidates were put forth by the Board Selection Committee and the Board of Directors unanimously voted to approve the nomination. The newest members of the board include:

Miguel Almodovar (Travelers); Emma De Las Casas (New Haven  Bank); Louise Dembry (VA CT Healthcare System); Frank Montero (Knights of Columbus); and Victoria Verderame (Knights of Columbus).

The following individuals successfully completed their terms and have been integral in the work of our affiliate for the last six years. These members include Simon Etzel, Michael D. Holmes, Chuck Lindberg, Al Lorie, and John Parese. We thank them for their dedication and service.

Our Annual Appeal Letter Featuring the Lopez-Sandoval Family!

Each year we ask one family to share their story in our annual appeal letter. This year, homeowner Patty and her children welcomed us to their home to share how being a part of Habitat has changed their lives in the past year, and how it is helping them to prepare for the future. ReStore Holiday Schedule

The holidays are quickly approaching! In order to give our ReStore staff the opportunity to spend time with their families, we will be operating on the following schedule:

Wednesday, November 25: Closing at 1 p.m.

Thursday, November 26: Closed

Thursday, December 24: Closed

Friday, December 25: Closed

Thursday, December 31: Closed

Friday, January 1: Closed

Our office and construction sites will be closed November 26 and 27, as well as December 24- January 1.

“Paint the Night Away” Event to Benefit Community Build Sleeping Giant Build: November 14

Community build Sleeping Giant Build will be holding their last “Paint the Night Away” event on Saturday, November 14! This event’s them is “Gorgeous Grapes” and you can see from the sample picture that these grapes are all about the wine! Tickets to the event, which include paints and a canvas, are $40. A $25 gift card to Viron Rondo Osteria will also be sent to participants, while supplies last. There are 40 gift cards available so register early to receive yours. Pre-Applications for Habitat’s Homebuying Program Available October 1-15

***Requests for pre-applications have now closed. We will open up for pre-applications again in 2021.***

We are excited to announce that Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven is now accepting pre-applications for our homebuying program! Anyone 18 years of age and older who would like to own a home is welcome to apply. We strongly encourage you to carefully review the information in the presentation below so that you understand the requirements of the homebuying program. Questions about program requirements can be emailed to Allison Mangles at amangles@habitatgnh.org. We cannot help you to complete the pre-application but we can answer questions about the program.

Labor Day Weekend Update

Our construction sites will be inactive on Saturday, September 5 in honor of the Labor Day holiday. Volunteer opportunities will resume at the build sites on Wednesday, September 9.

The ReStore will operate with normal business hours and will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, September 5 and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday, September 6.

Our office will be closed on Monday, September 7.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven Awarded 4-Star Charity Rating for Third Year

We are thrilled to announce that Charity Navigator has awarded Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven a 4-star rating for the third year in a row. This is the highest rating that can be earned and only 25% of organizations reviewed receive this rating for three consecutive years. According to Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator, the rating indicates, “that Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven outperforms most other charities in America. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Habitat for Humanity of Greater New Haven apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness.” We appreciate the hard work from our Board of Directors who helped to make this designation possible and we will continue to be accountable and transparent in our work in the years ahead.
